Biography

Professor Doreen Rosenthal is Professor Emeritus in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. She was Professor of Women’s Health and Director, Centre for Women's Health, Gender & Society until her retirement in February 2008 .

She is a developmental psychologist and an international expert in the field of adolescence, particularly sexuality and sexual health. Since 1992, when she took up her position as Foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Research in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University she has conducted social research into HIV prevention and has been a member of key National and State HIV committees. Her most recent research has been a cross-national study of homeless young people with a focus on pathways into, through and out of homelessness. She has published widely in the area of adolescent development and is co-author of five books and more than 160 articles and book chapters.

Professor Rosenthal is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and is named on the Honour Role of Victorian Women. She was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for her national and international work on adolescence.
